Here you will find updates on how we make the maple syrup during the season which is usually in the Spring. And also misc updates and news.

3/9/2010    The 2010 season is upon us! We started tapping the first week in March and now we are gathering the sap and boiling it into Maple syrup! Our new horse Barney seems to be working out well. So far the prices will remain the same. So get your orders in! We are still working on the shipping rates as we try to use the flat rate boxes. Check out our Facebook page and become a fan to keep up on updates throughout the Sugaring season! Pleasant Valley Maples On Facebook!

Happy Spring and we look forward to hearing from you.

5/28/2009    I see I didn't add much this year about how our progress was! Well we did better than last year! In fact it sounds like most everyone did better this year. It's a bumper crop so we hope prices will remain reasonable!!

We were able to find another horse. It's also a Belgian like the remaining horse. We still miss the horse we lost but are looking forward to getting to know this new (to us) horse. He's about 11 or 12 and isn't the prettiest horse but a hard worker. That is just what we need. He's got the biggest feet. I'll add a pic of him to the slide show as soon as I can.

We have a page on Facebook so feel free to look us up at Pleasant Valley Maples and get to know us better.

I'm working on adding some tid bits and facts page so you can read up on some great info!! Also I hope to add some recipes some time soon.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

Well the 2009 sugaring season has started!! Since we lost our horse last month we did get a chance to borrow one and they are hard at working helping to gather the sap and return it to the sugar house where Frank is busy boiling and canning!! He sure could use some help!! I haven't been able to this year. I sure do miss it but have more pressing things to tend to.

As stated on the front page, the prices will remain the same at least until May! Shocking but true!! Same great quality and taste but we like to keep our customers happy and especially with the bad economy, we want to keep our prices reasonable.

Tapping the trees this year was challenging since the snow was so deep. It has been getting cold at nights and warm during the day which is exactly what the sap needs to run. Just as long as it isn't too cold or too warm. It did get too cold a few days ago and the sap froze but luckily it warmed back up.

02/09/2009    Sadly we lost one of our horses yesterday. She got loose and injuried her leg and there wasn't much else that could be done for her. She was over 20 years old. Her teammate misses her as do we all. We will probably borrow a horse for sugaring this year.

It's getting closer!!

01/27/2009    Well here we are in a brand new year and soon it will be approaching on a new syrup season. We have a lot of snow so the sap should be ready to run! Some say it might be better to tap in late February but we will have to see how that goes.

This year will be different because we are expecting a little Maplebaby that will be due soon!!

We hope this finds you all well and a healthy 2009 year. We look forward to serving you with some fresh syrup but we still have a few containers left from last year.

11/10/2008    Time for a website change!

It's been snowing here in Northern New York. In the right months it helps makes the sap run. Right now it's too early to tell.

If you haven't checked out our poll, please do so. We are interested in your opinion! Thanks so much!!

06/20/2008    We had a major storm on June 10th that tore a few trees and power/phone lines and also uprooted some Maple trees in the woods.

05/20/2008

Changed site design.

HAPPY MAY DAY!! Prices will be increasing today.

04/25/2008

********News Flash********

Prices might be increasing in May so get your orders in!! Those that have already ordered but haven’t received them will keep the same price.

We had a pretty good year this year considering the weather was too cold and then too warm.

04/10/2008

Wow, it’s been a busy few days! Now the weather is warming up so that doesn’t help us. It slows down the sap. We are hoping it will cool off enough that the sap will run some more.

03/31/2008

The crew went out to check and see if there is any sap to gather. Most of it is still frozen but we are hoping with the warmer temps that we will be gathering and boiling this week.

03/28/2008

Finally we have some sap that wasn’t so frozen. We were able to get quite a few containers filled. Today we plan to gather, boil and can some more! It’s Spring but there is still snow on the ground.

03/20/2008

Well Friday we tried to boil but ended up being short on sap so we didn’t get any syrup. It’s been too cold here and the sap is frozen in the buckets. We prob will continue to try to gather on Monday or Tuesday. It’s a lot of work and quite a process to make Maple syrup but it sure is worth it, yum! We wish you all a very Happy Easter!!

03/20/2008

We are currently busy scattering buckets, gathering sap and hope to boil soon!

UPDATE: A great start to the season! We were able to boil and make 15 gallons!

→This is Cindy's first time to see maple syrup being made and she's quite excited!
